Where was vodka invented?

Four nations claim vodka as their invention: the Russians, Polish, Swedes and Ukrainians. They are all partly right. It is generally accepted that the Polish invented vodka that is distilled from potato spirits. However, many people believe that grain-vodka was invented by the Russians. But the Russians claim to have invented the product in or around Kyiv (Kiev), which is now the capital of Ukraine, but was then a part of the Russian Empire.

Why is Slava under $30, while other ultra-premium vodkas are $40 or more?

It costs more to make an ultra-premium vodka, since the raw materials are more expensive. However, the main price increase in many luxury vodkas is caused by extravagant packaging. Slava, while pretty, uses a more conventional bottle, which saves money. After all of the mark-ups and taxes are applied, these other fancy bottles end up costing about $10-$20 extra. We believe that it is what’s in the bottle, rather than what’s on the bottle, that counts. If you really enjoy spending extra on vodka (and you still want the best), then we suggest that you throw some cash into your blue box when you recycle your Slava bottle.  Or you could keep it.
